Social Sustainability
Social sustainability is the least understood concept of the three pillars. It focuses on working and communicating with others to create and develop desired processes and structures, in order to meet the needs of current and future generations; ensuring a healthy and sustained community.
The main aims of social sustainability focus on:
-
Satisfying an extended set of human needs
-
The continuing ability of a city to function long-term: through human interaction, communication and cultural development
-
To encompass human and labour rights, as well as corporate governance.
