Waste and Recycling

 

Recycling is a process to change (waste) materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling). All of which can help the health of our planet!

 

Why we seperate materials for recycling:

 

  • It helps the materials to be re-processed quickly

  • Mixing materials together can spilt the quaility of the materials being recycled (eg. Coffee left over in a cardboard cup). This means they cannot be re-processed efficently as the materials are contaminated.

  • We want to avoid contamination to reduce the ammount of materials sent to landfills.

 

Materials that can be recycled:

  • Paper, card, post its, newspapers and magazines

  • Tins and cans

  • Plastic

  • Cardboard

  • Glass

  • Clothing - There are clothing bins on CCCU North Holmes campus, at the enterance of gate 1, see map provided below:
